I too was flabbergasted by a black friend who shared thoughts of "Hatred, Racism, and Slavery" concerning it. I posted the following on Facebook and hope you don't mind that I share it here... Wishing Y'all the Best!, D -your cousin L's husband...

To Whom it may Concern...
I have many dear black friends and neighbors who I love and respect without reservation. I have been spanked as a child by black housekeepers when I needed it. I have worked and laughed alongside these friends throughout my lifetime. We have drank from the same water jug in the hot, dusty, summertime fields of red Georgia dirt. This heritage is a valuable part of who I am today. I am thankful for them. At the old age of 50+, both my Great-Grandfathers enlisted as a Private in their Confederate Army's of Georgia and Alabama. They, nor any of their kin had ever owned a slave, but they cherished family and friends, their freedom and their land. They stepped forward as a MAN! to defend these things even to death if necessary against the invading savage army from the north. Both survived and returned home to raise their humble families on their dirt-scrabble farms. They held no ill will toward any black man because of his race, and taught their children accordingly... I am proud of that heritage and will always cherish it. Please watch this short video about the so called Confederate Flag entitled "Behind the Dixie Stars". I think you will find it informative.
YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF-QIJyLhKQ

Behind The Dixie Stars

7 minute Documentary featuring Nelson W.
